Third party developers and your account dataUpdated an hour ago
Yoto is an open platform, blessed with a wonderfully creative community, and we believe that enabling independent developers to build on it makes the product better for everyone.
We are proud to have a community of developers that make useful, fun and interesting apps on top of the Yoto platform for you all to enjoy.
What kind of data can a third party developer access?
When you press “Log in with Yoto” you're (at minimum) giving the third party basic access to your Yoto profile data. This means your:
- email address
- country
- name that you provided
- unique user ID
On top of that, apps will need to access different parts of your Yoto data depending on their functionality.
Further data examples
For example, let's look at an app that monitors the battery of your Yoto devices and then sends you an email or text when any of them needs charging.
It always needs access to your Yoto devices because that's how it knows what their battery levels are, and can then send you an email to notify you. But that app doesn't need access to your playlists. And it might be suspicious if it did.
An app like a playlist editor, on the other hand, needs access to your playlists and content library so it can help you create, edit and manage your own cards. But it wouldn’t need access to your device battery status or usage data.
We always recommend checking what permissions an app is requesting and making sure they match what the app is supposed to do.
How can I revoke access given to a third party?
You’re always in control of which apps can access your Yoto account.
If you no longer want to use a third-party app, you can revoke its access at any time by contacting us.
Once access is removed, that app will no longer have direct access to your Yoto data.
Note that this doesn’t affect any data the app developer already has. If you want these removed it’s best to contact the developer directly.
If you ever log in to the app in the future, you’ll be asked to grant permissions again, and have an opportunity to review exactly what access it’s requesting before continuing.
What can I do if I'm worried about a third party app or developer?
The best way is to contact the developer directly. So far we found that developers have been very willing to engage with their users and try to make the experience better for everyone.
If you're experiencing negative behaviour or something else that you feel like is against Yoto’s Creator Guidelines then you can report it to us by sending an email to [email protected].
What is an unverified app?
An unverified app is one that hasn't been through Yoto's review process.
You'll see a warning on the login screen letting you know when this is the case, and you'll need to explicitly accept before continuing.

Think of it like any other website or app you come across on the internet, it's worth taking a moment to check who made it, what it does, and whether you're comfortable with what it's asking for before giving it access to your Yoto account.
How does Yoto verify published apps?
We review every app before it's listed on our official channels (like the Yoto App or Yoto Space). This includes checking for security issues, ensuring compliance with our content guidelines, and verifying that the developer has provided adequate information.
We also confirm that apps do what they claim without requesting excessive access to data, and that a clear privacy policy is in place.
Despite all of this, it’s still important for you to choose which ones you trust based on your level of comfort with what you’re willing to share.
