How to stream online content using your phone as a hotspot
Using your phone as a hotspot to get your Yoto player online means that you can play all of your content (including cards that haven’t downloaded, or streamed content like Yoto Radio or podcasts).
It’s great for camping trips and holidays where you might not have access to Wi-Fi. You can also use this method to set up your player if purchased on the go or at one of our airport stockists.
Follow these steps to connect your phone’s hotspot:
Before you start, please ensure that your Wi-Fi connection is turned OFF, and that the maximize compatibility option is turned ON, on your mobile device.
If you have an iPhone
- Go to your phone's Settings app and enable your “Personal hotspot”
- In the Yoto app, go to the Players tab and tap the cog icon next to your Player to open Settings
- Tap the blue “Manage Wi-Fi” button and select ‘Add New Wi-Fi’ to enter the set-up flow
- When it asks you to pick a network to connect to, select your phone
- Enter the hotspot password as the Wi-Fi password
- Continue the rest of the set-up as normal
If you have an Android phone
- Make sure your phone is in hotspot mode
- In the Yoto app, go to the Players tab and tap ‘Set up a Player’ to enter the set-up flow
- Follow the same steps you would normally run through until you get to the screen where it asks you to connect to the Yoto Hotspot
- In your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, select Wi-Fi mode (from the drop-down settings) to disable the hotspot
- Back in the Yoto app, connect to Yoto_***
- Select your phone from the list of Networks and enter your password
- In your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, re-enable hotspot mode (again from the drop-down settings) while the Player is trying to connect
- Continue the rest of the set-up as normal
