What is the Yoto Mini Smart Cable?

The Yoto Mini Smart Cable works like a regular USB-C cable, with additional ‘smart’ functionality to regulate the power delivered to your Yoto Mini and help ensure safe charging at all times.

Less time waiting to play — The new Smart Cable uses a faster charging protocol, which means your Mini will be charged at 2x the normal charging speed when used with any power adapter rated 5W or higher.

Smarter, safer charging — Inside the Smart Cable is a small chip which communicates with the Yoto Mini. This keeps the battery charge within safe limits – and minimizes the risk of overheating.

Clearer visual cues — When connected to a Yoto Mini and charging as normal, the Smart Cable LED will be lit up. If the cable needs to stop charging for any reason, the LED will blink, and a notice will appear on the Yoto Mini screen if necessary.

How do I know if my Yoto Mini is affected, and I need to use a Smart Cable?

All Yoto Mini's manufactured between 2021 and 2023 must be charged with a Yoto Mini Smart Cable.

Yoto Minis (2024 Edition) have a 14-digit Serial Number that either:

starts with 9FE, or;
starts with AFE, BFE, CFE, etc. going down the letters of the alphabet, or;
starts with AVC, BVC, CVC, etc., going down the letters of the alphabet, or;
ends with a dash H, or dash H7, or dash U, regardless of how it starts.

Can I use this Yoto Mini Smart Cable with my Yoto Player (3rd Generation)?

No, we recommend that the Yoto Mini Smart Cable is used only with your Yoto Mini.

Will the Yoto Mini Smart Cable work with any USB-A power adapter?

Yes, the smart charging cable will work with any USB-A power adapter with an output power rating of 5V/1A (5W) or greater.
