Improving the size and speed of audio downloadsUpdated a few seconds ago

You may have noticed some of your cards being re-downloaded over the past few weeks, especially if you have a larger library.

This can mean some titles that were previously downloaded, aren’t any more - we’re sorry for the disruption, and we appreciate your understanding.

The re-downloaded cards are in a new audio format.

Improvements to downloads

We’ve been gradually converting the audio file format to improve audio compression on certain Yoto cards, particularly those with mostly spoken content.

These changes will mean faster downloads and more space on your Yoto Player or Mini, all while maintaining great sound quality. Two things we know families have been asking for!

Which content this applies to

Please note that this change only applies to certain Yoto titles, and not your Make Your Own playlists.

Most conversions are taking place in November, and we started with some of the largest and most popular cards first, so you should see it happening less frequently over time.

Conversion will pause from 27th November when lots of families will be on the move for the festive period, and resume in 2026.

Titles already converted include the Brain Bots series, the Harry Potter series, Winnie the Pooh: The Complete BBC Collection, and Draw Along (Best of Yoto Daily).

What to do if a card isn’t playing as expected

If a card isn’t playing properly, please wait until it has fully finished downloading.

If playback still doesn’t work, try performing a ‘hard reset’ by holding the power button for at least 10 seconds until your Player restarts.

Check before you travel

If you have plans to take your Yoto Player or Mini offline this season (such as while travelling), here’s a reminder of how to prepare.

You can also check the status of your downloads the night before in the Yoto App by going to Settings > My Players > Audio download status. Leave your player plugged in but not playing anything so the downloads can complete.
