Yes, US Yoto Mini (2021–2023 Edition) users should order a free Battery Replacement Kit. Registered owners will have received an email from Yoto with further instructions. The kit will contain a replacement battery from a new supplier, as well as the required tools and detailed instructions on how to change the battery. The new battery is the same as the one used in Yoto Mini 2024 edition and will remove the risk of battery overheating.

How do I know if my Yoto Mini is affected and needs a Battery Replacement Kit?

Affected units were sold between 2021 and 2023 and generally have a serial number starting 1FE-8FE. But there are exceptions to this, so please read on for the details. You can find the 14 digit serial number on the base of the unit.Yoto Minis (2024 Edition) are unaffected and do not require a Battery Replacement Kit. They have a 14-digit Serial Number that either:

ends with a -H, or -H7, or -U, regardless of how it starts (including if they start 1FE-8FE), or;
starts with 9FE, or;
starts with AFE, BFE, CFE, etc. going through the letters of the alphabet, or;
starts with AVC, BVC, CVC, etc., going through the letters of the alphabet.

Why are you offering the Battery Replacement Kit as a new remedy now?

In a small number of cases, the battery may overheat when the Yoto Mini is being charged after the battery has gone completely flat (i.e. after a prolonged period of the Yoto Mini not being used). The Battery Replacement Kit removes the risk of overheating associated with the old batteries. We have successfully rolled out the Battery Replacement Kit in Australia.

I have more than one Yoto Mini. Can I get more than one Battery Replacement Kit?

Yes, you can register to receive one Battery Replacement Kit for each Yoto Mini (2021 - 2023 edition) that you own.

Do I have to pay shipping costs for the Battery Replacement Kit?

No, you don’t have to pay any shipping costs for your Yoto Mini Battery Replacement Kit. One Battery Replacement Kit will be shipped free of charge for each Yoto Mini (2021-2023 edition).

I didn’t buy my Yoto Mini from Yoto directly, can I still get a Battery Replacement Kit?

Yes, all registered Yoto Mini (2021-2023 edition) users are eligible for one free Battery Replacement Kit per device.

What if I sold or gifted my Yoto Mini (2021-2023 edition)?

We will contact registered users, but if you sold or are the gift giver and not the user, please notify the recipient of the need to order a Battery Replacement Kit. One Battery Replacement Kit will be provided free of charge per registered Yoto Mini (2021-2023 edition). Registered users need to insert the serial number found on the bottom of their Yoto Mini on https://yotoplay.com/recall/brk. A Battery Replacement Kit will then be dispatched.

How long will it take for my Battery Replacement Kit to arrive?

Using the Battery Replacement Kit

How do I register my replacement Battery?

IMPORTANT: you need to keep the box your Battery Replacement Kit came in to register the new battery.

Registration is needed for verification and tracking purposes. Once registered and verified, you will receive a Yoto voucher, valued $20 (CA $30/£15/€15) for each installed Battery Replacement Kit (if you have installed two Battery Replacement Kits, for example, the voucher will be valued $40). This voucher can be redeemed against any product on the Yoto website (excluding Yoto Club). This voucher code will be sent in a separate email within 45 days.

Once you have completed the installation of your new Yoto Mini battery, scan the QR code found on the outside of the packaging to complete a form and register your new battery. Scanning the code on the box will auto collect the battery serial number for ease.

How do I use the Battery Replacement Kit?

Detailed written instructions and a step-by-step video are available here. There is also a QR code on the underside of the replacement kit lid, which when scanned will take you to more instructions and the step-by-step video guide.

The kit will include all the tools that you need including the battery subassembly, spare screws, prising tool, screwdriver and replacement rubber feet for your Yoto Mini.

Once you have completed the installation of your new Yoto Mini battery, please scan the QR code on the outside of the packaging to complete a form and register your new battery. This step is very important, as it will allow us to verify the new battery in order to send your voucher.

How should I dispose of the old battery?

You should follow the procedures established by state/province, local or national law, or your municipal recycling center for recalled lithium-ion batteries, because these potentially hazardous batteries must be handled differently than other batteries. Do not throw this recalled battery in the trash as this is a fire hazard. Do not deposit this recalled battery in used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores.

You should immediately stop use of the Yoto Mini until you have installed the Battery Replacement Kit. Once the new battery is installed, you can continue to use it alongside the Smart Cable, as it provides protections against component failure and power surges.

Once you have installed your new battery and registered it, you will receive a follow-up email within 45 days with your unique voucher code to spend on any item on the Yoto website (excluding Yoto Club). You can register the new battery by scanning the QR code found on the outside of the Battery Replacement Kit packaging, which will take you to https://brk.yotoplay.com/ to complete a registration form. Scanning the QR code, found on the outside of the packaging, should autopopulate your serial number. How much is the voucher worth?

We are offering a USD $20 voucher (CA $30/£15/€15), per installed Battery Replacement Kit, which can be redeemed against any product on the Yoto website (excluding Yoto Club).

How do I use my voucher?

The voucher can be redeemed against any product on the Yoto website. You will be able to enter your voucher code at checkout. It can be used as partial payment, or added together to buy multiple products and it to cover shipping fees - much like a gift card. The voucher will be valid for 6 months from the day you receive it, and you can use your voucher on multiple purchases until you've used the entire amount.

How many vouchers will I get?

You will receive one email with a total voucher amount that reflects how many Battery Replacement Kits you ordered and installed. For example, if your household has ordered two Battery Replacement Kits, for two Yoto Minis, you will receive an email with a voucher for USD $40 once we verify that you have installed and registered both battery replacement kits.
